There are only 10 spices in this Genus
and all are growing in northern temperature regions.
Fagus - Beech name is derived from "Fago" (to eat),
because it's the nuts were used as food in early days. 
Beech tree of graceful silhouette has s smooth bark,
the oily -  sweet flavor triangular nuts which fed man and all forest animals. 
Mature age of Beech Tree is 90 years but they live to be 300 - 400 years old. 
Tall trunks of Beech Trees represent centuries old man's best natural resource
