The ancients believed that Poplar was consecrated to time. 
The white underside of it's leaves represent day and almost black upper 
surface - night, so the Celtic Druids called Poplar Tree the "Timeless".
In Roman times tall, slim Poplar trees were planted to decorate "arbor populi" 
public places. That is how they attained name "Poplar" the tree of the people. 
In United States, Poplars were planted during the War of Independence 
as a growing symbol of freedom. 
Poplar species native to North America are divided into three groups: 
cottonwoods, aspens, and balsam poplars.
